With the exploding popularity of cellular telephones, the county commission made a wise decision last week to acquire the hardware necessary to pinpoint the location of callers reporting an emergency by punching in the numbers 911.

About 30 percent of the calls made to 911 in Shawnee County come from cell phones, says Bill Singer, director of the county's Emergency Communications Center.
