Former Topeka banker, civic leader and sports hero Clinton Odell "Del" Weidner II is to be sentenced today in federal court in Topeka for convictions of six felonies in a bank fraud case.
Weidner, 50, of Topeka, and David C. Wittig, 48, of Topeka, were convicted on July 14 in U.S. District Court on charges of conspiring to hide a $1.5 million loan from federal regulators. Weidner, former president of Capital City Bank, in 2001 extended Wittig's line of credit at the bank by $1.5 million.
