My friend Linda is politically astute and always provides me with things to ponder. She recently commented that our war on terror made no sense to her. Linda pointed out that terror is actually an emotion. "How can you declare or fight a war on an emotion?" she asked.
"Good question," I thought. So, I looked up the word "terror" in my trusty Webster's New World Dictionary, and she's right. The first definition listed under "terror" is "intense fear." When you frame a war on terror in such light it seems impossible to ever win such a battle. How can you win, or even fight, a war on fear? War generates fear, right?
