Oct. 4, 1922: The widow of Gen. George Custer presented a pair of his riding boots to the Kansas State Historical Society.

Oct. 5, 1859: In a treaty with the Kansa Indians, their reservation is divided, with sections assigned to individual members of the tribe. Land also is designated for a school.
