The wind came first, gusty and strong. And then the snow, and more and more of it.

The snow was heavy and quickly became deep after it began at about 10 a.m. It swirled in the wind. At times, the combination of snow and wind created near whiteout conditions in Topeka. The city was under a winter storm warning.
