Phyllis was born Aug. 24, 1924,the daughter of Samuel Edward Reid and Evelyn M. Coons Reid, in the Kibbee community west of Osage City. She attended schools at Kibbee, Osage City, Boise, Idaho, and Lyndon. She graduated from Lyndon High School in May 1942.
