If you asked a handful of deer hunters about their favorite trophy buck, you'd likely get a variety of answers. Some would refer to incredible spreads while others might babble non-stop about the number of points. Massive antlers might be mentioned as well as towering tine length. Certain characteristics of antlers are individual preference, but they all add up to a score that can be compared to every other whitetail in the world and ranked accordingly.

Scoring trophies isn't anything new. One of the oldest conservation and record-keeping organizations in the country, the Boone and Crockett (B&C) Club, was founded in 1887. Theodore Roosevelt and 10 of his influential friends initiated the venture as a result of the vast numbers of passenger pigeons and bison killed by market shooting during the previous decade. Goals of the club were simple and focused on the conservation of critical wildlife habitat and the principle of hunting in fair chase. The B&C Club currently classifies 35 species of big game taken by firearms or archery equipment for their record books.
