Summary


The 2007 Kansas spring turkey seasons kicked off with the first archery-only season April 1-10. Patterned after Nebraska's season, the Kansas version offered bowhunters a brief opportunity to try their luck before the regular season opened Wednesday when any legal weapon could be used to harvest a turkey. Harvesting a gobbler with a bow may be the ultimate challenge. Although I'd done it before, I relished the opportunity to participate in the first official season when it opened April 1.

I managed to pack most of my gear the night prior in between timeouts as I watched the men's Final Four basketball games. Florida had no trouble with UCLA and Ohio State handled Georgetown, so I didn't mind missing some of the games making sure I had my bow, blind, decoys, calls and accessories lined out and ready to go. The 4:30 a.m. wakeup call would come early enough and I didn't want to scramble around at the last minute.
