Shawnee County Sheriff Richard Barta on Tuesday defended his decision earlier this year to confer "special deputy" status upon District Attorney Chad Taylor, which allows him to carry a gun in the courthouse after the county commission refused to let him do so.
"I have the utmost faith, trust and confidence in Mr. Taylor and his abilities and discretion to utilize the handgun if required," Barta said.See the full content of this document
