Brownback: No Vote On Track Slots

Summary


Gov. Sam Brownback expressed doubt Thursday state lawmakers had time to devote political energy to an advisory vote in Sedgwick County testing interest in placing slot machines at a dog racetrack.

A new group, Wichita Wins, revealed plans last week to campaign for placement of the slot question on Sedgwick County ballots for a second time. A referendum on slots at tracks was narrowly defeated in 2007, leading businessman Phil Ruffin to close Wichita Greyhound Park.
