On May 30, 1854, President Franklin Pierce signed the Kansas- Nebraska Act, which called for the organization of new two territories. The Kansas Territory was to lie west of the Missouri River between the 37th and 40th parallels of latitude and extend west to the crest of the Rocky Mountains.See the full content of this document
