Summary


In just a few days, television stations will begin switching from analog signals to digital transmissions. This is significant for Baby Boomers because we are the generation that has witnessed the development of this amazing medium from the first fuzzy black and white images to today's fancy high-definition screens that cover entire walls.

It was less than a year after WIBW-TV began broadcasting in November 1953 that my family bought our first television. I was just a little tyke, but I remember the day my father carried it into our living room and set it down in the corner. Encased in a large wooden box it had a bulbous screen that looked like an eye stuck wide open.
